About This Event

The Veterans Phalanx is heading to the beach for a morning of service, connection, and a few miles with some four-legged company. On Saturday, October 3, we are joining Tails of the Trail for one of their shelter dog hikes with Nassau County Animal Services. The idea is simple: shelter dogs need exercise, attention, socialization, and some time outside of the shelter. We think plenty of veterans could use a good reason to get outside too. This is an opportunity to spend a Saturday morning on the beach, walk a dog, meet some good people, and do something worthwhile. No speeches. No formal program. Just show up and walk with us.

Participants meet at 8:00 AM for check-in and a required volunteer orientation. Around 8:15 AM, participants are paired with shelter dogs and head onto the beach for a 1–2 mile walk, depending on the temperature that morning. The hike wraps up around 9:30 AM, followed by time to cool down, socialize, and get the dogs ready to head back. The event concludes around 10:00 AM. Veterans, families, and community supporters are welcome. The dog gets a good day. You might too. Facta Non Verba — Deeds, Not Words.

Veterans, veteran families, supporters of The Veterans Phalanx, and community members.

What To Expect

Meet near the beach access next to Salt Life and look for the Tails of the Trail check-in table with the bright yellow tablecloth. A required volunteer orientation happens at check-in before dogs are paired with participants.

Tails of the Trail asks for a $10 donation from participants to help keep these outings going. If the cost would keep you from participating, come anyway. The Veterans Phalanx will cover it.

Join us.

An accurate headcount matters — Nassau County Animal Services needs to know how many dogs to bring. Let us know you are coming so we can pass along the numbers.

The Line Holds When People Show Up
