Next Objective: Field Trip to the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville on Friday, December 18, 2026, leaving together from St. Marys, Georgia, with a goal of 175 holiday gifts.

About This Event

On Friday, December 18, 2026, The Veterans Phalanx is heading to the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville for a holiday visit built around one simple idea: Show up.

We are working toward a goal of 175 holiday gifts for the veterans living at the Home, using items they have specifically asked for, including pajamas, sweatshirts, sweatpants, jackets, body wash, fragrance/body spray, T-shirts, holiday treats, and fresh fruit.

But this trip is about more than gifts.

It is about bringing the community with us, spending time with veterans, sharing the holidays together, and making sure they know they are still very much part of the community around them.

We are inviting community members to join us for the trip, help collect and donate requested items, contribute toward the gift effort, write holiday cards, help with packing, or simply help spread the word.

We are not locking this into a rigid one-size-fits-all gift package. What each veteran receives will be shaped by the generosity of the community, the donations we receive, and the items we are able to source. Our goal is to make every gift thoughtful, useful, and worthy of the veteran receiving it.

The Field Trip Starts in St. Marys

We’re planning to leave St. Marys, Georgia together that morning and make the trip to Milledgeville as a group.

Part of the goal is for the day to actually feel like a field trip — a little adventure, a shared experience, and something meaningful we get to do together.

Whether we end up on a donated bus, in vans, or another group setup, we want the ride itself to be part of the day: people getting to know each other, laughing, talking, and heading out together with a purpose.

Then we’ll spend time with the veterans at the Home, deliver the gifts, share the holiday spirit, and head back to St. Marys together.

This is supposed to be meaningful. But it should also be fun.

Transportation details will be shared as they are finalized.

Current Requested Items

  • Pajamas
  • Sweatshirts
  • Sweatpants
  • Jackets
  • Body wash
  • Cologne / body spray
  • T-shirts
  • Chocolate-covered cherries

  • Fresh apples
  • Fresh oranges

We will also be collecting boxes, wrapping paper, tape, gift tags, holiday cards, and other packing supplies to help prepare the gifts.

Requested items will be gathered and combined thoughtfully. Individual gifts will vary based on community contributions and the items available; not every veteran will receive every item or an identical package.
